Youth Therapy

Youth therapy caters to the unique challenges and needs of this stage of life. We go through a significant chunk of development during the teen phase of life, tolerating much change and many transitions. This can often feel confusing, frustrating, lonely, scary, hard, and a whole host of other things. Youth voices are important and valuable— we believe youth deserve to have a space to be heard and explore the complexities that come with growing up.

The benefits of therapy for youth are many and diverse; often, this type of work includes exploring personal identity, helping to make sense of experiences at home, school, and other settings, identifying, validating and accepting a full range of emotions, developing coping skills to deal with stress and dysregulation, building self-esteem, strengthening social skills, reducing anxiety, enhancing relationship bonds with family and peers, and much more.

We believe that each teenager is unique and full of existing strengths. Our general approach to therapy is to focus on the youth’s skills, strengths, unique interests, and help them access their own unique resilience. Sometimes this looks like traditional talk therapy, sometimes it incorporates experiential therapies (like art, movement, or sand tray), sometimes it means sitting in silence— even though youth may be struggling to discover or express their identity, we acknowledge and respect their preferences and go at whatever pace they need.
