Nia Neumann
Art Therapist, CCC, MA
My Approach
I’m Nia (she/her) and I’m an art therapist, counselling therapist and psychotherapist. It’s important to me that, when you’re in the therapy room, you feel comfortable, safe and cozy, and that you are seen and valued. My role is to help you discover yourself, explore your experiences and navigate emotions. I work mainly from a client-centered, solution-focused approach, meaning that your health and well-being are the most important to me and I value connection and trust in our therapeutic relationship. I believe that humans are innately resilient, and I will always be watching for your strengths and capabilities.
One of my main modalities is art therapy, a form of therapy that combines the creative process with psychotherapy to facilitate deeper exploration, self-awareness and understanding. I believe that we are all creative beings regardless of our personality, background, or current state of life. I am here to help you discover yourself, explore your experiences and navigate emotions using whichever form of creative expression feels right for you, even if you don’t believe that you’re an “artist”! No art experience is required, and art therapy can be used with all ages.
I also conduct traditional verbal therapy for those who may not be interested in using art. Individuals have trusted me to walk through difficult emotions, memories and experiences with them, using a variety of lenses, including trauma-informed, attachment theory and other integrative approaches which can be tailored to fit your personal needs. I am also deeply passionate about the areas of sexual health, religious trauma and exploration of sexual identity after faith transitions, which is an area of lived experience for me. Growing up in “purity culture” has influenced my life, and I am profoundly aware of how it has impacted the mental and physical health of so many others. I have been honoured to walk with individuals through the process of healing from trauma, exploring and recovering personal identity, reconnecting and building a stronger relationship with the physical body, re-learning – or learning for the first time! – basic sexual education, accessing pleasure in all parts of life, and reforming core beliefs about self and the world. My work is to help others enhance and strengthen their relationship with their physical, emotional and spiritual selves in order to lean into the life and future they desire.
I look forward to meeting you!

Art Therapy
There is a place for everyone in art therapy, as we all have the potential for expressing ourselves creatively. In our work together we may draw, paint, work with clay, build things, create a comic book, look at pictures, visualize images, listen to music, knit, write, or talk – the options are endless and completely unique to you. Art can provide a language to describe feelings, thoughts and life experiences that are hard to put into words. The act of creation can also be deeply relaxing and calming, which can help to ease conversation and bring a sense of comfort to the therapy space.
