Career Assessments
Are you feeling stuck in your career? Having difficulties deciding which post-secondary program to choose? Graduating and unsure of a career path? A career assessment (sometimes referred to as vocational assessment) helps individuals identify interests and clarify values, preferences, and strengths that align with their long-term career goals.
Individuals may choose to complete a career assessment for a variety of reasons, such as:
To identify career interests, values, and options.
Explore personal strengths and skills pertaining to work.
Evaluate options for further education, professional development, or compatibility with potential career options.
Navigating a career transition or change (e.g., re-entry into the workforce, maternity leave).
Addressing career dissatisfaction (e.g., burnout, lack of fulfilment) and exploring alternative roles or careers.
We offer career assessments for teens (ages 15+) and adults.
Career assessment process:
Initial Intake Session: This first appointment will focus on discussing your area(s) of concern and provide an opportunity to gather background information about your work, education, and other relevant experiences. At the end of this session, an assessment plan will be developed based on your goals.
Completion of Career Assessments: This step involves completing relevant career/vocational tests.
Feedback session: The next step involves discussing your assessment results and providing recommendations for next steps. You will be provided with a copy of the assessment report(s) at the end of this session.
Planning and Implementation: After the feedback session, some individuals may benefit from additional sessions to gain further clarity and support in planning and implementing the next steps in their career. This step can be further discussed with your psychologist to best help you meet your career goals.
The cost of a career assessment ranges based on the nature of the evaluation. Career assessments are billed at a rate of $220 per hour in alignment with the Psychologist’s Association of Alberta (PAA) fee schedule. Extended health benefits may cover some or all the cost of an assessment. Please verify with your benefits provider to determine your available coverage. At the end of the assessment process, you will be provided with an invoice that can be submitted to your insurance company.
